The Mission

At Akuila, a food delivery app in Ghana, we aimed to design and develop a system that addressed key user pain points, such as uncertainty and lack of clarity in order tracking, with the goal of enhancing user confidence and satisfaction.

I designed a solution that enabled users to effortlessly track their food orders, ensuring an enjoyable experience from start to finish. This design provided the business with a strategy to achieve its goal of enhancing customer satisfaction.

The Process

The Problem

In Accra, a dynamic city with a rich food culture, we identified a gap in the food delivery market: the lack of an effective tracker, making it hard for users to track their order progress. Drawing from our experience with food delivery apps abroad, where users can easily follow every step of their order, we aimed to bring that seamless tracking experience to the market.

The Research

We analysed leading food delivery companies in Accra, focusing on their food tracking systems and overall user experience within their apps. Additionally, we conducted surveys to better understand users' food ordering experiences.

Insight:
While most apps featured tracking functionalities, their estimated arrival times were frequently inaccurate, which could negatively impact the user experience.

The Flow

Through analysing successful delivery apps, I mapped out a similar experience, that prioritised an efficient way for users to complete their food order with the least amount of screens and where users could clearly see their order process right after check out.

I then tested a sketch of the flow on a small number of participants to ensure that the design addressed the user needs.

The Personas

Using participant data, I crafted four personas to ensure our product appealed to a wide audience with a simple UI, tackling the primary tracking issue and additional concerns.

The Wireframes

I developed wireframes based on research, drawing inspiration from successful delivery apps like Deliveroo and Ubereats, which feature efficient food tracking systems.

Style guide

My goal was to create a design system that reflected the brand and supported the clear communication and ease of use for the app.

Prototype

Building on the low-fidelity wireframes and style guide, I created a high-fidelity prototype in Figma and then worked closely with the developer to implement the front-end designs using React, bringing the concept to life.

This project highlighted the value of collaborating with potential users to create a product that truly meets their needs. By working closely with local restaurant owners, delivery drivers, and customers, we refined the system to be seamless and intuitive, ensuring it was well-prepared for the testing phase.
